Posting content for everyone is the same as posting content for no one. Learn how to niche down in order to grow.
Why choose a niche?
Recently Instagram has been flooded with low quality, recycled content. Choosing a niche will allow you to focus your information and provide more value on a smaller topic.
When you niche down:
- Your brand/page becomes focused
- You get seen as an expert
- You can charge more
- You get to choose your clients
- Your brand/page will grow faster
- You start building a community
How to Niche
There are 3 ways to niche
- Service - Ex: Web design
- Industry - Ex: for start-ups
- Profile - Ex based in the UK
Before: ‘I post content about web design’ → After ‘I post web design content for start-ups in the UK’
Choosing an Instagram Niche
To make sure you’re choosing the right niche, first ask yourself these questions:
- Am I passionate about it?
- Is there enough demand?
- Do I have enough credibility?
- Do I understand the market?
- Are other people posting in this niche?
Exercise 01 - If you could only have 1000 followers, who would they be?
Write down answers to these questions
- Who’s your ideal follower?
- Why would they follow you?
- What value do you provide to them?
- What are they struggling with?
- What category would they fit into?
Exercise 02 - If you had to describe your niche in one sentence, what would it be?
“I help (people) to (solve problem).”
For example:
“We help content creators grow online”
“I help beauty brands find new customers”
Now, take your sentence and use it in your Instagram strategy
Everything you do on Instagram should refer back to that sentence. From creating content to writing your Instagram bio.
